"The Ultimate Cheat Sheet" For Upvc Replacement Door Handles
UPVC Replacement Door Handles
As time passes the handles on your doors will wear down and will require replacement. It is essential to be able to match the dimensions of the handles you have previously replaced when replacing them.
The top screw position the lever, and the keyhole sizes are the three measurements you need to check. Check the size guide for assistance with this.

Inline Lever/Lever
A lever/lever door handle is a contemporary handle that can be used on replacement or new doors. This type of handle is available in a variety of styles and finishes. This handle is available from several manufacturers, including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The door handles of uPVC/Composite are constructed of durable materials and are suitable for multi point lock doors that require a heavy duty design. The handles are inline, and use the same spindle and screws to secure them. They are easily fitted on a new or existing uPVC/Composite door.
The spring lever design allows the handle to be placed and angled to ensure a comfortable experience and is suitable for all users. The handle has been endurance-tested to 200,000 cycles. This helps to ensure that the finish is of high quality and performance over time. The sprung lever is also adjustable to accommodate a wide range of locks. This is particularly beneficial for narrower door frames where the cylinder is further back. A shortened lever is also an ideal choice for doors that have latches that can be activated by the thumb turn inside.
Lever Pad
A Lever Pad upvc door handle operates differently than lever handles found on most doors. These handle types can either use a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side by using two offset spindles or inline (pad). repairmywindowsanddoors are generally employed on UPVC double-glazed doors and are available in a variety of variations and styles.
The handles have been tested to a minimum of 200 000 cycles and are available in several finishes including White and Silver, as well as Chrome & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to corrosion. This gives the handle an outstanding performance and durability for its intended use.
All of the UPVC lever pad designs come with the spindle and screws which allow them to be fitted on any new or existing uPVC door. The backplate fixation centres of 211mm allow for a bigger handle, which is usually an advantage when replacing a damaged or old multi-point door lock mechanism. The handle levers are sprung, solving the problem of handles hanging out of the horizontal position when they are not in use.
It is important to match the PZ dimensions for both the multipoint lock and the uPVC doors when selecting a replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is also known as the handle centre or 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect in ensuring that you have the appropriate handles.
Once you have the correct PZ size, you'll have to ensure that the handle lever pads and push pads are a suitable shape for the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) approved handles you require for your doors. They are typically round or square with an internal lever and an external push pad.
Most of the UPVC lever pads that we offer are sprung, which means that they will return to their horizontal position after not in use, rather than hanging out and possibly securing in the frame. This stops draughts from entering the home. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles are available in left and right handed versions which allows them to be put on either side of the doors.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks are found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. Cylinder locks are operated by a key which unlocks the cylinder's casing. This reveals pins that can be aligned with those inside the lock, and permit them to turn the revolving camera, thereby opening the door. Euro Cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins, with external and internal doors generally requiring different levels of security.
Choosing the right cylinder is essential; it is contingent on the way your door and handle are utilized. For instance, exterior doors require an extra secure cylinder, while doors inside can be secured with the standard cylinder. Some cylinders have extra features that increase security, like anti-drill or anti bump properties.
A euro cylinder should be measured correctly to ensure it's the right size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the hole in the center of the fixing screw to the other end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. It is best to do this with the lock in place however if this is not possible, you may take it off to measure. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon may be susceptible to attacks like snapping locks, therefore it is crucial that it's not too long.
Most newer cylinders have been designed with anti-drill and bump resistance features included in their design. They are designed to decrease the risk of attack by causing the cylinder to rotate in an opposite direction. This will help to deflect attacks and ensure your door is secure.
There are cylinders that are designed to resist snapping. This is a more frequent method of attack on cylinders where the break line in the lock is targeted with a special tool to break off the front of the cylinder to allow the door to open. This is a quicker and simpler method to gain access than a multipoint locking system. It also leaves no evidence of the break-in which could hinder insurance claims.
Spring Cassette
This spring cassette is located inside the base plate of your door handle. It provides a sprung solution to help return the multipoint lock handles to their resting position after use. Previously a lot of these types of handle did not have a spring integrated into them and without this they are more likely to slide or 'drop' once the locking mechanism is disengaged. Adding this simple component is one of the most effective ways to fix this, and is an excellent way to stop your doors made of upvc from becoming stuck in an open or closed position, as these are not always easy to manually close by hand.
These spring cassettes have been specifically made for use with multipoint locks sprung, they will not fit multipoint handles that are not sprung and you will need to have a bespoke hole cut into your backplate in order for them to fit (please see image for technical diagram). These cassettes are a solution for damaged or missing cassettes in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are available as one unit. They have a square-cut out that is able to accommodate an 8mm shaft.
These spring cassettes are a great value-for-money way to fix the problem of handles on your doors that are sagging. They are simple to install and will extend the lifespan of your uPVC doors.
